london tube art

Since 2004 the humble pocket London Underground map has been promoted to the level of cultural artefact as works by leading contemporary artists – from labyrinthine squiggles to richly coloured magic carpets – appear on the cover. Richard Long contributed to the project, with an innovative I Ching-inspired design. Take a look at Art On the Underground's complete series of commissions. The rules are simple, think of a theme, and use the 12 colours that relate to the tube lines.
